Todd Perchert, 55, along with his wife Danielle and their attorney James Tawney, held a news conference in Albuquerque seeking accountability following a crash involving Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina on February 17, 2024. Perchert was driving his 1966 Ford Mustang when Chief Medina, responding to a nearby altercation, accelerated into Perchert’s vehicle.
Perchert sustained severe injuries including a broken collarbone, eight broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and facial lacerations, requiring extensive surgery and hospitalization. The aftermath has left Perchert in constant pain and limited mobility, disrupting their active lifestyle and forcing cancellation of anniversary travel plans.
The Percherts expressed disappointment in Mayor Tim Keller’s praise of Chief Medina’s actions and perceived lack of concern from the Albuquerque Police Department. Their attorney criticized the internal investigation and called for accountability, questioning why New Mexico State Police weren’t involved. Mayor Keller’s office expressed concern for Perchert’s recovery and confidence in the ongoing investigation. The APD highlighted the ongoing internal investigation and crash review board to determine accountability and policy adherence.
