El Paso, Texas — A deadly wrong-way crash on I-10 West near Mesa has resulted in criminal charges against 25-year-old Britney Torres. The collision happened around 10:39 p.m. on February 3, 2026, and involved a head-on impact between two vehicles.
Jesus Chico Jr., 25, was driving westbound in a Honda Civic when Torres allegedly entered the highway traveling in the wrong direction. Police report that her vehicle struck Chico Jr.’s car head-on in a deadly wrong-way crash, causing fatal injuries. Chico Jr. later died from injuries sustained in the crash, while Torres suffered minor injuries and received hospital treatment.
Investigation Findings and Criminal Charges
Court documents state that Torres admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash and said she consumed an unknown number of shots. Investigators reportedly found alcohol in her vehicle and observed signs of intoxication.
During questioning, Torres told officers she believed she was driving on Loop 375 and heading home after visiting her sister. When asked if she felt capable of driving in her condition, she allegedly responded, “Obviously not.”
Authorities arrested Torres and charged her with intoxication manslaughter. She remains in jail on a $150,000 bond. The El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit continues to review the case as investigators work to determine all contributing factors.
