Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina’s crash in February sparked controversy at a recent city council meeting. Medina admitted to running a red light to avoid gunfire, resulting in a collision with Todd Perchert’s Mustang. Ryan Stone of APD’s Crash Review Board defended Medina’s actions, deeming the crash unavoidable due to the perceived threat.

Although there was talk of a no-confidence vote, it was withdrawn for further discussion. Councilor Louie Sanchez raised concerns about inconsistencies in reactions to the crash and questioned the investigation’s integrity, highlighting potential conflicts of interest within APD. Despite public scrutiny, Mayor Tim Keller’s support for Medina remains pivotal in determining the chief’s fate.
