After a car accident, you may want to file an injury claim. And to file your claim, one of the first things you need to do is obtain evidence.
However, few pieces of evidence are as important as a car accident report filed by the responding police officer.
Here’s an overview of why Albuquerque car accident reports are so important and how you can order a copy of yours.
Why You Should File a Police Report in Albuquerque After an Accident
If you receive an injury in a car crash, it’s essential that you file an accident report with the responding police department.
Albuquerque car accident reports serve as important evidence in your claim since they often include:
- An overview of the accident from a neutral third party;
- A description of property damage, injuries, and road conditions; and
- Photographs, diagrams, or partial reconstructions of the accident.
This information may help show the other party’s fault while also providing an official account of the accident.
Ways to Obtain Albuquerque Car Accident Reports
In most cases, the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) handles most accidents that occur within city limits. Currently, there are two ways to receive your accident report from the police department: in person or online.
In-Person
To obtain a copy of your accident report in person, all you need to do is visit the Law Enforcement Center at the following address:

The building is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. When you arrive, you’ll need to provide a form of identification to receive the report.
In addition, bring any information that may help them locate the report. This includes the date and location of the accident.
Online
For convenience, the Albuquerque Police Department offers accident reports through LexisNexis’ online system.
To receive a copy of your report, simply visit their website, select the Albuquerque Police Department under the jurisdiction category, and provide one of the following:
- Your last name and the date of the crash;
- Your last name and the location of the crash; or
- The report number (if known).
Each copy of the report costs $7.50. You may need multiple copies depending on the circumstances of your claim.
Keep in mind that it may take a few days for your report to show up in the system.
