The Attorneys of Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C. Offer Their Condolences

Our hearts go out to those affected by this tragic accident in southern New Mexico. Unfortunately, there are many details still unknown about the cause, which brings a lot of pain and uncertainty to victims and their families. A car crash involving semis is often catastrophic, whether it results in the death of a loved one or serious, life-altering injuries. We hope that those affected by this crash are able to find the justice they deserve.

The Short and Long-Term Costs of a Semi-Truck Accident

While all accidents have the potential to be serious, none are quite as dangerous as semi-truck crashes. Due to their sheer size and weight, semi-trucks often leave a devastating amount of damage in their wake. This usually means death or catastrophic injury to those who happen to be in the path of the accident.

However, semi-truck accidents are also more complex than a standard car crash. This is because motor carriers and shippers don’t always follow the same laws and regulations. Some need to follow only intrastate rules, while others need to abide by federal laws. In addition, truck drivers aren’t always employees and are sometimes considered independent contractors.

The main difficulty with semi-truck crashes is that the liable party isn’t always obvious. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you seek legal assistance if you or a loved one gets in an accident with a commercial vehicle. Gathering as much evidence as possible is an important step, and our attorneys can help by requesting accident reports and investigating the scene.
