Shiprock, NM (May 31, 2023) — New Mexico State Police are currently investigating a motorcycle crash that left one person dead on Monday afternoon. The accident happened at around 2:20 PM on US 491 in San Juan County. According to the report, a 2012 Toyota, driven by an unidentified 23-year-old male, was heading south on the highway near mile marker 95. For unknown reasons, his vehicle struck a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle, ridden by 65-year-old Eddie Gilmore of Crownpoint, also traveling southbound.
While the driver of the Toyota was not injured, the motorcyclist was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. A preliminary investigation has found that speed appears to be a factor in the accident.

Your Rights If a Family Member Dies in a Motorcycle Accident
After the loss of a loved one, it can be difficult to know what options you have as a surviving family member. While money can’t replace the love and support of a loved one, many families choose to file a wrongful death claim against the responsible party. This type of claim is similar, but distinct from, a personal injury claim. Instead of receiving damages for the victim’s losses, the family members make a claim for their own losses.
These types of losses are typically grouped into two categories: economic and non-economic. Economic losses are any of the financial damages your family suffers due to losing a loved one, including loss of future financial support, loss of inheritance, and funeral or burial costs. On the other hand, non-economic losses are the damages that can’t be measured financially. This includes your family’s mental anguish and suffering after the loss. Due to the personal nature of these losses, it is essential that families speak with an attorney about their wrongful death claim.
