Hondo, NM (May 25, 2023) — One person is dead and two others are injured after a pickup truck crashed with a commercial vehicle in Lincoln County. The accident occurred on Tuesday at around 10:50 PM on NM70 just east of Hondo. According to investigators, a 2008 Ford Truck, driven by 40-year-old Manuel Noriega of Riverside, was pulling out of a driveway near mile marker 300. There were also at least two other passengers in the truck. It was then hit by a 2014 Peterbilt CMV on the driver’s side.
Noriega was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His two passengers, a male and a female, were flown to the hospital for their injuries. Their current conditions are unknown. So far, it is not clear why the CMV wasn’t able to stop before hitting the truck. Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor in the crash, and it is not known if the driver of the CMV, who remains unidentified, has any injuries.
