Albuquerque, NM (March 7, 2023) — A Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputy and another driver were injured on Saturday night following an accident where the deputy was rushing to an unrelated standoff. The crash happened at the intersection of San Mateo Boulevard and Montgomery Boulevard.
According to officials, the officer was responding to a SWAT standoff involving a suspect with outstanding warrants who threatened to kill his wife. They initially responded to a home near Coors Boulevard and Gun Club Road. However, the suspect drove off and barricaded himself somewhere five miles south of the Route 66 Casino.
On the way to the standoff, the deputy crashed into another vehicle, causing the cruiser to roll over. Both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital. So far, there have been no updates on either driver’s condition.
