Lovington, New Mexico – A tragic head-on collision occurred Saturday night on New Mexico Highway 83 near South Ponderosa Lane. The Lea County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:32 p.m. to a crash involving a 2004 Ford F-250 and a 2015 GMC Yukon. Domingo Chavarria Jr., 45, of Lovington, was driving the GMC Yukon and died at the scene. The Ford F-250 blocked both eastbound and westbound lanes and showed extensive damage. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
