Know Your Potential Damages
With multiple car accidents on I-40 east of Albuquerque happening every month, it’s important that drivers know their rights if they’re injured in a crash. If another person’s negligence leads to a crash in New Mexico, victims may make a personal injury claim with the other driver’s insurance company. While most people think about immediate losses such as medical treatment costs as the basis of their claim, there are other damages they may pursue. This includes:
- Vehicle repair costs,
- Physical rehabilitation,
- Prescription medications,
- Future surgeries due to the injury,
- Reduced quality of life,
- Disability or disfigurement,
- Loss of earning capacity, and
- Pain and suffering.
Even though these damages don’t apply in every case, it’s worth speaking to an experienced car accident attorney about your unique situation. Oftentimes, insurance companies know that victims are desperate for money to help pay for their recovery. This means they sometimes offer a low settlement in the hope that you won’t hold out for more. A knowledgeable attorney knows this and will advocate for you during settlement negotiations and, if necessary, at trial.
