El Paso, Texas – Police confirmed that a fatal I-10 West crash in El Paso near the Cielo Vista Mall area left one person dead on March 14, 2026. The El Paso Police Department identified the victim as 74-year-old Sergio Miguel Gomez.
Investigators say Gomez drove a Chevy Malibu out of a nearby parking lot and failed to stop before crossing all lanes of Gateway West. His vehicle then jumped the center median and entered I-10 West, where it crashed into two other vehicles, resulting in a fatal I-10 West crash in El Paso that left multiple people injured and one person dead.
A 56-year-old woman riding with Gomez suffered injuries and went to a local hospital for treatment. Police said two people inside a Subaru Crosstrek from Heartland, Texas, also suffered minor injuries. The driver of a third Subaru escaped injury.
Emergency crews responded to the crash around 8:41 a.m. near mile marker 26. Officials closed I-10 West for several hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway. Earlier reports from the El Paso Fire Department stated that at least three people went to hospitals, including one person with serious injuries.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision. Officials also reported that this crash marked the 11th traffic-related death in El Paso this year.
