Understanding Damages in a Wrongful Death Claim

Following the loss of a loved one, it can be challenging to navigate the available options as a surviving family member. While it is true that no amount of money can replace the love and support of a departed family member, many opt to pursue a wrongful death claim against the responsible party.

This type of claim allows family members to seek compensation for their own losses, which generally fall into two categories: economic and non-economic. Economic losses encompass financial damages such as the loss of future financial support, inheritance, and funeral expenses, while non-economic losses refer to the immeasurable damages, including mental anguish and suffering endured by the family. Given the personal nature of these losses, it is crucial for families to consult with an attorney who has experience with wrongful death claims.
