The crash occurred around 6:21 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025, when the truck struck multiple vehicles and caught fire, prompting the El Paso Fire Department to classify the incident as a “mass casualty” event due to the significant emergency response required. According to authorities, one person has died, and at least eight others were injured—ranging from severe to minor injuries.
El Paso Fire confirmed that six individuals were transported to the hospital, including one with severe injuries and two with moderate injuries. Five others sustained minor injuries, though three declined medical treatment. One patient was airlifted via FireSTAR. The fiery wreck shut down all lanes in the area, including Spur 16 and Talbot, and caused massive traffic disruption.
