Several vehicle crashes in West Texas on Sunday and Monday, December 1 and December 2, 2024, resulted in injuries and fatalities, including two deaths in Midland County.
One incident occurred on State Highway 349 when a Chevrolet Sonic failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a Freightliner semi-truck. Manuel de Jesus Sanchez Velasco, 45, of Fort Bend, died at the scene, while the semi-truck driver, Jorge Luis Marquez, 40, of Horizon City, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Midland Memorial Hospital. The Midland Fire Department responded to the crash, and an investigation is ongoing.
