EL PASO, TEXAS — A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly wrong-way crash on Interstate 10 in East El Paso that claimed the life of a 72-year-old man.

According to the El Paso Police Department, Julian Lujan was arrested Monday and faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle. The arrest stems from a crash that occurred around 4:51 a.m. on Aug. 14 on I-10 East near Loop 375 North.

Investigators said a 2026 black GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling in the wrong direction when it collided with a red 2007 Toyota Yaris driven by Alberto Gonzalez Juarez. Juarez, an El Paso resident, was transported to a hospital after the collision but later died from his injuries.

Police identified Lujan, a San Elizario resident, as the driver of the pickup truck. Authorities reported that the crash marks the 36th traffic-related death in El Paso in 2026, compared with 37 at the same point in 2025.
