Albuquerque, New Mexico — On the evening of Thursday, July 18, 2025, A multi-vehicle crash occurred just after 5 p.m. on westbound I-40 near the University exit (mile marker 160) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. At least three vehicles were involved, and one overturned in the collision. Emergency responders from New Mexico State Police, Albuquerque Ambulance Services, and Albuquerque Fire and Rescue arrived promptly to assist. Injuries were reported at the scene, though the number and severity have not been confirmed.
The four right lanes of I-40 were closed for several hours, leading to heavy traffic congestion stretching back to San Mateo. The Albuquerque Police Department, Police Service Aides, and highway Help Trucks were on-site to manage traffic and assist with the ongoing cleanup. While one vehicle was removed by 6:25 p.m., two others—including the overturned vehicle—remained on the roadway. The interstate was finally cleared and fully reopened just before 8:10 p.m.
Motorists were urged to seek alternate routes during the delays.
